Temporary & Permanent Housing

Somewhere safe tonight. Somewhere permanent by the end of it. Both, with one case manager who doesn't hand you off.

Three stages

Housing is a sequence, not a single favor.

Most people who lose housing don't need one thing — they need the next three things, in order, without a gap. That's what this program is designed to deliver.

Emergency — as fast as we can place you

Hotel or partner shelter placement, transportation, food and hygiene essentials, and a same-week intake appointment. No documentation required to get the first night; we sort verification afterward.

Transitional — up to 18 months

A furnished unit in a CFH or partner property paired with weekly case management, benefits enrollment, employment support, and a written housing plan with dates on it.

Permanent — the goal

Security deposit and first-month assistance, arrears payoff to clear an eviction filing, landlord advocacy, HUD-VASH and SSVF coordination, and — where it fits — a path to ownership.

What assistance can cover

The line items that decide whether a lease holds.

  • Security deposits and first month's rent
  • Rental arrears to stop or reverse an eviction filing
  • Utility reconnection and past-due balances
  • Application fees, background-check fees, and broker fees
  • Moving costs, truck rental, and short-term storage
  • Basic furnishings, bedding, cookware, and cleaning supplies
  • Accessibility modifications a landlord won't fund

Assistance amounts are set case by case against documented need and available program funds. We will always tell you what we can and can't cover before you make a plan around it.

Common questions

Do I have to be homeless already to qualify?

No. We would much rather intervene at the notice-to-vacate stage than after a family has scattered. If you have received a late notice, a rent increase you can't absorb, or an eviction filing, apply now.

Does my discharge status matter?

We serve veterans with any discharge characterization other than dishonorable. If your status is under review or you're pursuing an upgrade, apply anyway and tell us on the intake call.

Are first responders really eligible?

Yes — active and retired firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS providers, and 911 dispatchers, along with their spouses, caregivers, and dependent children. This is not a veterans-only program.

What if I have an eviction or a criminal record?

Neither is disqualifying here. Both can make private-market placement harder, which is exactly why our landlord advocacy work exists. Tell us up front so we target the right properties.

How long does it take?

Emergency placement: as quickly as inventory allows, often within days of a completed intake. Transitional placement: typically 2–6 weeks depending on inventory in your region. Permanent placement assistance: 30–90 days.

$250 covers one night of emergency housing.
