Events & Awareness

Each event raises awareness of the challenges facing U.S. veterans, first responders and their families.

Why events are a program, not a fundraiser

Events generate more than funding.

We design events to achieve four goals at once: fund projects, recruit volunteers, connect U.S. veterans and first responders with on-site services, and give the community a public reason to stand together.

When people attend events alongside U.S. veterans and first responders from their community, they can hear their challenges firsthand and see how our programs can help. For us, awareness is not a soft outcome — it is how the next volunteer, partner, or referral finds us.

Runners, firefighters in full turnout gear, and cheering families at the sunrise start line of a community 5K, beside a Connections for Heroes banner and a row of American flags.

Our formats

Six event types we know how to run.

Heroes 5K & Family Day

Chip-timed race, kids' fun run, first-responder apparatus display, and a resource row where attendees can talk to VA and department benefits staff.

Ruck marches

12- and 26-mile team marches with weighted packs. High per-participant fundraising, strong military-community turnout, low overhead.

Golf classics

Corporate-facing scramble format with hole sponsorships. Our highest revenue-per-attendee event and the front door for most partnerships.

Night of Valor gala

Seated dinner, live and silent auction, and a single family's story told from the stage — with their consent, in their words, and with them paid for their time.

Station open houses

Hosted by partner fire and police departments. Free, family-oriented, and the most effective recruiting tool we have for local volunteers.

Build-day dedications

Small, unticketed key-handover ceremonies at the end of a renovation. Press-friendly, deeply moving, and free to run.

Bring one to your community

We'll hand you the whole playbook.

Host committees get a run-of-show template, sponsorship deck, permit and insurance checklist, vendor list, volunteer role descriptions, branded assets, a ticketing page on our platform, and a staff partner on a weekly call. You bring the venue, the local relationships, and the energy.

  • Minimum lead time: 90 days for a 5K, 120 days for a gala.
  • What we cover: event insurance, ticketing and payment processing, and donor receipting.
  • What you cover: venue, permits, and local vendor costs — usually underwritten by a title sponsor we help you recruit.
  • Net proceeds: designated to a project in your community unless you specify otherwise.
